$10K in damages after Rockford fire, cause appears accidental

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The Rockford Fire Department took control of a fire inside a garage on Tuesday morning.

Crews were sent to 5982 Allerton Dr. at 11:18 a.m., according to the Rockford Fire Department.

Crews first discovered smoke coming from an exterior wall that was shared with a neighboring residence. An interior search was conducted and found no occupants inside either residence.

The occupants of both residences had self-evacuated. The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes and the fire spread was contained to the two residences. There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters reported.

The fire department reported damages estimated at $10,000. The cause of the fire appears to be accidental and remains under investigation.
